Cryptic Pregnancy Labor:

Labor in cryptic pregnancy is not normal. It does not become active and it will not pass through the typical stages of labor that occur in a normal pregnancy. During a cryptic pregnancy the mother will experiencing "prodromal labor" off and on for an extended period of time. She will typically deliver suddenly with little notice after she has been experiencing the prodromal labor off and on for years.

Prodromal Labor: Prodromal labor is labor that starts and stops and does not become "active". It is often called “false labor,” but the contractions are real. They come and go and the labor does not progress at a normal rate. Prodromal labor is real in terms of contraction pain. What makes these contractions different from contractions seen in active labor is that they start and stop and never become "active". Prodromal labor contractions will often come and go at the same time each day, typically at night. It may be experienced every day for weeks or months. It may stop for weeks or months and then return. It will not have a notable pattern.

The most important thing to understand is that even though you have started to have the contractions, it DOES NOT mean you will deliver soon. You have to learn how to "manage" the contractions when they occur, they will come and go for years.

DO NOT TRY TO INDUCE. Cryptic babies DO NOT grow anywhere near a normal rate during the pregnancy. If you were successful, your baby may be extremely premature and not be able to survive outside of your body. Cryptic pregnant mothers must wait until the baby is born on it's own to ensure that it is ready to survive outside of her body.
